When Mohandas met Upasni

Mohandas Ghandi went to visit Upasni Maharaj at Sakori in the 1920s.

Upasni received this Mahatma in grand style, declaring
“So, you are a great man – what is that to me?”

The Perfect Master then lifted the sackcloth that he wore, and displayed his genitals to Ghandi.

Ghandi thereafter found it difficult to accept Upasni’s spiritual authority.

Ghandi’s crime was to not only allow his followers to beatify him with the title of Mahatma, but to wear it.

A Mahatma is a spiritual aspirant who is on a specific plane, and is also known as a ‘Great Soul’ or ‘Akhyar’.

Ghandi wasn’t one at that time.

Hence Upasni’s special welcome.
