One thing which often saddens me is when I see people around me enviously attacking others for something they have. It’s such a shame when it happens.
So often in life, we see that others have something that we would like, or have a skill that is different or surpasses our own in that area. Is that such a bad thing? I think one of the things I love the most about this world we live in is the diversity of life within it. We all make choices about what we want in life, and it’s great to share those choices with others. Sharing can help broaden our horizons, help us think about things that we’ve never thought about, or think about them a different way. If we all wanted the same thing then we truly would have scarcity! There are similarities naturally, however, if we’re truly honest with ourselves, do we really want everything that those around us want?
For me, one of the things that makes me really happy is seeing those around me get ahead. That’s one of the reasons I do the work I do, as a coach and therapist. I get to see people moving forward plus I get to help them in the process! It’s a fantastic feeling for me when someone tells me they’ve achieved one of their dreams, or that they’re now living the life they always wanted. How can we not be happy for them?
Ah but, you see, it’s very easy to fall into a space of envy and jealousy. “If they get that, then there’ll be less for me”, or “who do they think they are to live a life like that?”. It’s funny, we all have our models of the world about how we think others should think and behave, and what they should have. When someone does something that conflicts with our model of the world we can become quite upset and disturbed - “but they’re not doing it the way they should be doing it”! I love the phrase “there’s more than one way to skin a cat” and life is so very much like that. Just because someone is living their life differently to our own, does that make it wrong? Sometimes we envy others because they appear to have more courage in terms of taking these “leaps of faith”.
One of the biggest reasons we envy others getting ahead is because we compare ourselves with them. I can’t tell you how incredibly unhelpful this can be. When we compare ourselves with those around us, we will always find someone “better” or “worse” than us. It’s all subjective.
We must learn to appreciate that we’re all different, have different dreams, and want different things in life. The greatest thing we need to appreciate..... is the fact that we’re all really parts of the same thing - like spokes on a wheel. At the end of the day there is no difference between me writing this, and you who are reading it. Ultimately, we are one. Extensions of Source Energy having a physical experience. So when we attack others, we are in fact attacking ourselves. All this envy of others, and jealously guarding our own things can make us very unhappy and resentful.
Congratulating and feeling good for others as they achieve their dreams is such a high vibration feeling. Reading positive stories about people getting ahead can really lift our mood. The result of that, of course, is that we are even more likely and able to achieve what we want! Think about it that way. When we appreciate and admire others for getting ahead, and feel good for them, we are in fact moving ourselves further forward in achieving our dreams. Makes you think doesn’t it!
Feeling good for others, helps us feel good about ourselves. Feeling good helps us let go of fears and blocks that are holding us back. Let go of envy and resentment and, instead, choose to feel good when someone around you succeeds – even if you don’t necessarily like them ;-)
