In this Blog session today, before we get to the techniques that will help you, lets explore why limiting beliefs are holding you back and where they come from as you realise they are probably not even yours!
If you believe something about yourself you tend to attract more of it, whether that is a positive belief or negative. It becomes true for wherever you think you are right now it becomes part of your rule book and you abide by the belief and it becomes your reality. And you will find that you run your life in alignment with that belief system. You will hear this belief within your internal self-talk, which will create pictures in your mind which leads to the feelings you have, the actions you take and the results you get.
A limiting Belief is a negative thought that creates images in your mind that creates feelings in your body that will create the action (or inaction) that you take, which results in the outcomes that you have. And this is what holds you back from getting what you want.
You may want to write a book, but have the limiting belief that you are not creative enough and anyway it will never get published.
Perhaps you want to start your own business and see other people succeeding at what you want to do, and you have the limiting belief that you are not good enough because you will never be able to do as they do.
Financially you may be struggling and you may have the limiting belief that money is hard to come by.
Maybe you want to learn something new, or develop your skills, but your limiting belief is that you think you can’t learn anything because you never did well at school.
Where do these limiting beliefs come from?
So where do these limiting beliefs and the inner negative self talk come from come? Well they will come from past experiences that we have had where something didn’t quite work out for us as we wanted, they come from our Teachers, Parents although not always intentionally. And with this society where self-doubt is constantly being thrust at us from different angles, we can actually end up with limiting beliefs that were someone else’s.
Have awareness as to the intention behind this belief- If you think that something is holding you back, or you have thoughts that you are not good enough, you can’t achieve success etc…etc…. this is a limiting belief, so a good question to ask yourself is what is the intention of this belief? You see behind every behaviour there is a positive intention. For example, if you are looking to apply for a job or promotion or you are looking to ask that special person out for a date, and you believe you will not get the job or promotion because you are not good enough or you don’t approach that person for a date, because you believe they are to good for you and they will never be interested in someone like you.
You will find that the positive intention behind this is that you do not want to put yourself in a difficult situation and do not want rejection and your subconscious is bringing this limiting belief to your awareness with the positive intention of protecting you from being hurt.
But I think you will agree this will stop you from progressing and moving forward with the life that you desire. These beliefs are coming from the past, maybe something you have experienced, or maybe you have heard somebody say something negative about your ability. It’s time to think differently and leave those limiting beliefs in the past, because you like me will agree that they no longer serve you, if they ever did.
Change the Limiting Beliefs, change your reality.
So as you may be beginning to realise now, you would prefer positive uplifting beliefs, wouldn’t you?
Well I would like to provide you with a couple of techniques that you can start using today… And as you question your limiting beliefs and change them you will change your reality to a reality that you desire.
Technique #1 Give yourself positive suggestions retrain your mind.
1- As a self-limiting belief or negative thought comes to mind simply say in your mind straight away “STOP! that is my old way of thinking and now I only accept positive beliefs that will move me forward”. (This will create a pattern interrupt in your thought process, leaving space between thoughts and allowing you to fill this space positively-see step 2).
2- As you have this space now fill it with the direct opposite statement to what the limiting belief was trying to say. (E.g. if the limiting belief is “I am not good enough to succeed” replace with “I have already succeeded at many things in my life and I am always more than good enough to succeed at whatever I truly desire”. Notice noticing how different this new positive suggestion makes you feel, it will feel lighter and I wonder how much more determined and confident you already feel after this step.
3- See the successful you in your mind already achieving what it is that you truly desire and feel how good it feels, knowing that you can be and do whatever you truly want.
4- Accept this as the new belief systems that you will now have and state that this is the positive intention that you want now without the old limiting belief that you used to have.
Technique #2 Believe the limiting belief is not true.
1- As the limiting belief comes to mind- Ask yourself, if I was to carry on with this old belief what will my life be like in a year’s time, two years time? See in your mind what it looks like, how does it feel.
2- Say in your mind or write it down- “ This limiting belief is not true, I do not agree, this is not part of me, this is probably from the past where I used to think I was that person, but I am not that person.”
3-Now look at the reasons as to why this limiting belief is not true and write down 7 or more reasons as to why that limiting belief is not true and then put your focus onto success in your life and write down 7 or more success’s E.g. “I have a great job”, “ I am a great person to be around”, “I am slim fit and healthy” or something as simple as “ I got up this morning and brushed my teeth”.
4-Ask yourself, who will you now be without this limiting belief/thought, realise that you do not deserve this limiting belief and as you choose now a more positive thought, believe that you are deserved of whatever it is you truly desire and you can create exactly what you want and no limiting beliefs will stop you now.
Choose which technique you feel resonates with you or use both and do it on a daily basis and you will feel a difference as you allow yourself the space to have a change in mindset. You may get a little internal resistance at first but work through it, you will do just great. You will be aware of these limiting beliefs/ thoughts quicker and know how to deal with them in a productive way. And you will not have that limiting feeling anymore. Remember it’s all about taking control of your thoughts and not allowing them to be in control of you.
I certainly hope that in using these techniques and your understanding that you have the power to release limiting beliefs that you will imagine now for all the correct reasons that you can be totally in control of your destiny.
And realise that you have already achieved so much in your life, even if you do not yet realise, you do have inspiration and a wonderful source of strength within you and always realise that as you take positive action you will create the reality that you truly enjoy.
